Public Intellectuals Program

Comprised of 20 young American China scholars, the Public Intellectuals Program expands and deepens the scholars' knowledge of aspects of China beyond their own specialties and encourages their active engagement as public intellectuals both within and beyond their professional and geographic communities.

Inaugural group of PIP fellows: 2005-2007; second cohort selected spring 2008. Program dates for PIP II: Washington, D.C. meeting, October 2-6, 2008, first China study tour, June 19-July 1, 2009; San Francisco meeting, October 1-4, 2009; second China study tour, June 18-30, 2010; Washington, D.C. meeting, fall 2010

Policy Leaders Orientation Program

Orientation program exposes up-and-coming government officials to American history, politics, and contemporary society through a two-week study tour of the eastern United States

Established 2007; two programs held annually - one for China-based officials and one for Chinese diplomats stationed in the U.S.

Land Use and Public Participation

Delegations of government officials, scholars, and experts travel to the U.S. and China to find more productive ways of managing public participation in issues such as eminent domain, demolition, and relocation.
