The 47th Members Program will feature Admiral Samuel J. Locklear III in conversation with National Committee President Stephen Orlins. The Admiral will address U.S.- China relations in the context of the harsh rhetoric from North Korea, the tense situation in the East and South China Seas, and the recent improvement in military-to-military relations between China and the United States.
Biography:
Before becoming head of the Pacific Command in March 2012, Admiral Locklear served in many senior positions, both at sea and on shore. At sea he was commander of U.S. Naval Forces Europe and of U.S. Naval Forces Africa, as well as commander of the Allied Joint Force Command Naples. He also commanded the U.S. THIRD Fleet, the NIMITZ Strike Group and Destroyer Squadron TWO. Ashore, his service includes time as executive assistant to the vice chief of Naval Operations and as the commandant of midshipmen at the United States Naval Academy.
Admiral Locklear graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1977. He is a 1992 graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, and holds a master’s degree in public administration from The George Washington University. His personal decorations include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Distinguished Service Medal with one gold star, Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit with four gold stars, Bronze Star Medal, and numerous individual, Campaign and Unit awards.

Members: please note that the Admiral Locklear program will occur right after our Annual Members’ Meeting. The meeting, voting and official business will be held from 4:00 to 4:30 pm, followed by a short break and then the program at 4:30 pm. A reception will be held at the program’s conclusion.
