The National Committee hosted Congressman Rick Larsen (D-WA), co-chair of the bipartisan Congressional U.S.-China Working group, at an informal round table discussion at the Committee’s offices on July 30, 2012. The conversation, moderated by President Stephen Orlins, touched on topics ranging from the role of China in the 2012 elections, bipartisan cooperation in Congress, U.S.-China economic and trade issues, and Congressional views of China.

Congressman Rick Larsen is serving his sixth term in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing northwestern Washington state. He is a member of the House Armed Services and Transportation and Infrastructure Committees. Representative Larsen co-founded the U.S.-China Working Group, which educates Members of Congress on U.S.-China issues through meetings and briefings with academic, business and political leaders from the United States and China. He has visited China several times as a member of National Committee delegations, most recently in April, 2011, along with Representative Boustany and National Committee president Steve Orlins.

As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, Congressman Larsen works to support the two military bases in his district on behalf of current members of the military as well as veterans. As a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Congressman Larsen is committed to investing in transportation to create jobs and boost the economy.

Congressman Larsen is also co-chair of the Congressional Methamphetamine Caucus, which works to fight the meth epidemic in the United States by supporting law enforcement, prevention and treatment efforts.
