Healthcare consensus agreement


The National Committee has released a consensus agreement by leading Chinese and American experts participating in the U.S.-China Track II Dialogue on Healthcare calling for the two countries to cooperate more effectively to confront the Covid pandemic, and to improve global healthcare delivery through a set of recommended policy steps. The Healthcare Dialogue, established in 2017, is conducted in partnership with the National School of Development at Peking University. The Consensus Agreement outlines critical areas for the United States and China to jointly address.

EVENTS
  

Gala 2021

On November 9, 2021, the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations held its black-tie Gala Dinner at The Plaza New York. Members and friends gathered to celebrate the over $2.6 million raised to support the National Committee’s mission and work. This year’s esteemed honoree was Ming Hsieh, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Fulgent Genetics, Inc., and a member of the National Committee’s board of directors.

Ping Pong Diplomacy

The National Committee, USA Table Tennis, and the Chinese Table Tennis Association co-hosted a November 23 reception in Houston, Texas, celebrating the 50th anniversary of ping pong diplomacy. The event was in conjunction with the World Table Tennis Championships, being held in the United States for the first time. Virtual remarks were made by Dr. Henry Kissinger, Chinese Ambassador Qin Gang, and other American and Chinese officials. In-person remarks from Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, representatives of the three host organizations, and American and Chinese players involved in the 1971/72 historic exchange of visits, were followed were followed by exhibition matches, including mixed doubles of younger and older players.

Digital Econ Dialogue

The U.S.-China Track II Dialogue on the Digital Economy virtually convened leading experts and business leaders on November 17 and 18 to explore key issues and developments in the digital economy sector. The American delegation was led by NCUSCR Director, Admiral Dennis Blair, and the Chinese delegation was led by Major General Hao Yeli (ret.), chair of the Guanchao Cyber Forum. The dialogue focused on topics including semiconductors, enterprise software, and broader digital economic relations. As with past dialogues, the two delegations will collaborate on a consensus agreement to be shared with policymakers in both countries.

Schwarzman Scholars
 

In November, the National Committee hosted two off-the-record briefings for Schwarzman Scholars and alumni, both moderated by NCUSCR Schwarzman Scholars Fellow Will Cullen. The first, featuring Public Intellectuals Program (PIP) Fellows Lina Benabdallah (Wake Forest University) and Dawn Murphy (U.S. Naval War College), focused on China’s influence in the Global South. The second, featuring climate experts Li Shuo (Greenpeace East Asia), Rahul Tongia (Brookings Institution), and PIP Fellow Angel Hsu (UNC), explored key takeaways from COP26 and how U.S.-China competition will shape global climate action.
