U.S. Pacific Command Perspective on Security in Northeast Asia (New York)

The evolving security environment in Northeast Asia continues to be a major focus for U.S. Pacific Command. Although events and trends have challenged regional stability, Northeast Asia remains stable and secure, enabling prosperity and growth. Admiral Timothy J. Keating, Commander, U.S. Pacific Command, will discuss transformed U.S. alliances with Japan and the Republic of Korea; appropriate U.S. presence and forward basing; a maturing, constructive relationship with China; and how an expanding multilateral approach to crisis management will remain the command’s foundation for regional security.

Admiral Keating assumed command of U.S. Pacific Command on March 23, 2007. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, during his distinguished career he has served as commander of North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command, director of the Joint Staff, and commander of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command and U.S. Fifth Fleet, among other posts.
