The Bo Xilai Trial: Legal and Political Implications

The trial of Bo Xilai, former Party Secretary of Chongqing, has been called the most important political trial in China in decades. On Wednesday, August 28 the National Committee convened a discussion with two American experts on Chinese legal development and politics, Ira Belkin and Cheng Li, respectively.

The Fall of Bo Xilai and Its Significance

On April 10, 2012, Chinese authorities announced that Politburo member Bo Xilai had been removed from both the Politburo and the Central Committee and that his wife Gu Kailai was implicated in the murder of a British national in Chongqing last fall.
