[10/22/2026] — The National Committee on U.S.-China Relations Outgoing President Steve Orlins and President-elect Sarah Beran traveled to Beijing to meet with U.S. and Chinese officials and National Committee partner organizations October 12-17.   

Orlins and Beran met officials, scholars, and counterparts in NCUSCR Track II dialogues, educational exchanges, and next-generation leadership programs. Meetings included Ma Hui, vice minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, Gao Fei, President of China Foreign Affairs University, U.S. Embassy Officials, and Wu Ken, President of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs. Maintaining these relationships through a change in leadership is part of how the National Committee keeps its dialogue and exchange channels open, including during periods of tension in the bilateral relationship. 

“The National Committee is committed to maintaining channels of communication, increasing resilience in the bilateral relationship, and enhancing understanding between the U.S. and China. That will continue through this transition of leadership,” said Beran. “At every meeting, I was struck by the long history and deep relationships that the National Committee team has cultivated, despite challenges in the bilateral relationship.” 

Steve Orlins has served as president of the National Committee since 2005. The National Committee will honor him at its Annual Gala on November 10, 2026, the day Beran assumes the presidency. Read the announcement of Beran’s appointment.

美中关系全国委员会会长欧伦斯与候任会长贝莎兰共同访华，贝莎兰将于11月接任会长

10月12日至17日，美中关系全国委员会现任会长欧伦斯（Stephen A. Orlins）与候任会长贝莎兰（Sarah Beran）共同访华，与中美两国官员及委员会合作伙伴进行会面。 

访问期间，欧伦斯与贝莎兰会见了中共中央对外联络部副部长马辉、外交学院院长高飞、中国人民外交学会会长吴恳，以及美国驻华大使馆官员，并与长期参与委员会二轨对话、教育交流及青年领导人培养项目的学者和合作伙伴进行深入交流。 

此次访问正值委员会领导层交接之际，旨在延续和深化与美中各界的长期合作关系，确保在双边关系面临挑战的背景下，继续保持沟通渠道畅通，推动两国对话与交流。 

贝莎兰表示：“美中关系全国委员会始终致力于维护沟通渠道、增强双边关系的韧性，并增进美中两国之间的相互理解。在此次领导层交接中，我们将继续秉持这一使命。” 她提到：“此次访问的每一场会晤中，令我印象尤为深刻的是，尽管中美关系面临诸多挑战，委员会团队多年来仍通过长期努力，与各方建立并维系了深厚而持久的合作关系。” 

欧伦斯自2005年起担任美中关系全国委员会会长。委员会将于2026年11月10日举行年度晚宴；届时将向欧伦斯致敬。同日，贝莎兰将正式接任委员会会长。
