The Board of Directors of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations announced today that they have selected career diplomat Sarah Beran as the organization’s next president. With more than two decades of experience at the highest levels of U.S. foreign policy, Ms. Beran will join the National Committee in October and will succeed Stephen A. Orlins on November 10, 2026.
The group had a candid exchange on the current state of U.S.-China relations and issues shaping the bilateral relationship, including trade, agriculture, economic engagement, geopolitical tensions, and the broader global environment.
The discussions covered economics, trade and investment, as well as the importance of maintaining stable bilateral ties.

Senior leaders from the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations met for an off-the-record discussion with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 25, 2024.
The meeting included business executives from NCUSCR member companies.
The off-the-record conversation was frank with both sides focusing on areas of agreement and disagreement, and proposing ways to break some of the logjams in the relationship.
