Recent Developments in Hong Kong: Environmental Issues and Beyond

Christine Loh, undersecretary for the environment in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, discussed recent developments in Hong Kong as well as environmental issues in Hong Kong and neighboring Guangdong Province on Thursday, February 7 in New York. This National Committee event was co-sponsored by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office.

BIO

Before assuming her present position, Ms. Loh was the chief executive officer of the non-profit public policy think tank Civic Exchange.  Prior to founding Civic Exchange in 2000, Ms. Loh spent nearly a decade as a politician and member of the Legislative Council (1992-1997 and 1998-2000).  Earlier, Ms. Loh held senior positions in commodities trading, as well as in project negotiation.  She is a lawyer by training, having received an LL.M. in Chinese and comparative law from City University of Hong Kong.

As an active figure in public affairs since 1980, she founded or served on numerous boards of non-governmental organizations in Hong Kong and overseas including those of the East West Institute (New York), Human Rights in China (New York), the Tallberg Foundation (Sweden), and, in Hong Kong, the Society for Protection of the Harbour, the Clean Air Network, and the Community Business.  She is also senior policy adviser to the C40 Large Cities Climate Leadership Group (London).
